(My apologies, this was supposed to post at 8am this morning…and didn’t.)
We were promised a “high profile” acquisition during the summer transfer window and New England Revolution President Brian Bilello tweeted the following last night:
There are many who think (hope?) that it will be Hungarian international and former Sporting KC striker Krisztian Nemeth, but I’m not so sure. There are plenty of players on the roster capable of scoring goals- Nguyen, Fagundez, Kamara, Agudelo, even my personal scape goat, Teal Bunbury- and adding another one is just going to create a traffic jam up front= unless somebody is on the way out…
No, I think it’s going to be a defensive player- either a midfielder who excels on the defensive side of the ball or a stay-at-home defender to play along Antonio Delamea in the back line. If that’s the case my guess is that London Woodberry or Donnie Smith might be on their way out.
More than anything else, I hope it’s a player with some leadership and character, a player who expects much and won’t accept less. The Revolution’s roster is as talented as any roster in MLS and more talented than most but while I can’t think of any “bad apples” on the roster, I also can’t think of anyone who holds his teammates accountable.
I guess we’ll know all of the answers later today.
