It was announced today that during Ross County F.C.’s upcoming preseason trip to La Manga, Spain they will play two friendly matches against European opposition. The two matches are:
July 4: Ross County F.C. v. Real Murcia C.F.
Ross County’s first opponent will be Las Pimentoneros, who currently play in Spain’s Segunda Division B (third tier). Murcia finished second in their league last year but missed out on promotion to the second tier when they lost to Valencia’s reserve side in the promotion semi-finals. Murcia have spent most of their history in Spain’s middle divisions but this hasn’t prevented them from having some high profile coaches in their history- Ferenc Puskas, Laszlo Kubala, John Toshack, and Javier Clemente! One familiar face in the team will be that of Roman Golobart, who spent most of the 2011-2012 season on loan (from Wigan Athletic) at Caley Thistle!
July 6: Ross County F.C. v. Valenciennes F.C.
Two days later County will square off against Les Athenians of France’s Ligue 2. Valenciennes finished in the lower third of Frances second division last season, but as recently as 2014 they were ending an almost decade-long spell in the French top flight. While Valenciennes cannot boast the top name managers Murcia have had, they have had several notable players in their history: Roger Milla, Jorge Burruchaga, and Jean-Pierre Papin. Though I can’t confirm in at the moment, there’s even a chance that American defender Ryan Duncan is still with the French club!
