Tough Times at the Rumor Mill

A 90 second walk from my front door.

It’s that time of year again and for the first time in a long time, I’ve got nothing- the Rumor Mill is empty!

Well, there are a few things, but nothing that would qualify as even a hint of a rumor.  There’s plenty of talk about whom supporters would like to see in a County shirt (those abandoning ship at Caley, a few players from the lower leagues- Falkirk’s Luke Leahy is a name keeps popping up- who showed some promise during the 2016-2017 season, etc.).

There is, of course, talk about the players who might be leaving County that supporters hope will stay.  EVERYONE wants Liam Boyce to stay (he still under contract, FYI), but everyone knows that his departure is inevitable, so much of the talk is about whether he should be sold and for how much (rather than simply waving “good-bye” and getting nothing if his contract expires)?  The “how much” amount discussion seems to feel that something around £1m would be appropriate and I’d have to agree with that.  Also, for that amount of money, how does a club like County say “no?”  That kind of money could pay for, what, as many as five first team players?

Another player who is technically gone but many would like to see back is Jim O’Brien, who joined the club in January on loan from Shrewsbury Town.  I really liked what I saw from O’Brien, especially as a ball-winner in the midfield, and I’d love to see him back at Victoria Park on a two year deal.  Whether he (or Shrewsbury) would want to do that remains the question?  Personally, I’d think the idea of regular first team football at County would be more attractive than being a squad player at Shrewsbury- a club, by the way, that came much closer to getting relegated from its league last year than County did!

Sadly, that’s about all there is at the moment.  Jim McIntyre staying- assuming there was every any truth to the Dundee F.C. interest in luring him away to Dens Park- and it will be up to him to start signing up new players over the next few weeks…I hope!
