Tonight I am at Hampden Park in Glasgow for a World Cup 2018 qualification match between Scotland and Slovenia.
If Scotland win they will…move up to 3rd place in their group (behind England and Slovenia) and still not be in position to make the World Cup. Even if they moved up to second place they’d still only have a chance to qualify. So, yeah, all hope is not lost, but having said that, I’ll be focusing on the “occasion” rather than the consequences of the match itself.
If were smarter I’d be back up in Dingwall for Scott “the Ginger Pele” Boyd’s testimonial match which also takes place today. It would be cheaper and probably more entertaining- it’s Ross County Legends v. Celtic Legends- but instead I’ll freezing my bahookie off with thousands of other members of the Tartan Army who, frankly just never learn.
