Two das ago I went to see the Proclaimers for the umpteenth time (not a complaint!) and this time I was prepared. Charlie and Craig always hang around after their shows to meet fans sign whatever you might like them to, and generally show that there just as polite and well-mannered as you think they would be. In the past I’ve had to head home immediately after shows or have forgotten to bring anything of meaning for them to sign- BUT NOT THIS TIME!! This time the show was only 15 minutes away from my home and I had something I wanted them to sign. And here it is!
Yup, that’s the 1994-1996 Hibernian F.C. (Craig and Charlie are life-long supporters) that I’ve had in my collection since, well, since it was new. I brought this for two reasons- I KNEW they’d sign it (I mean, c’mon!) and I had a good story to go with it- I saw my first professional match at Easter Road (a 2-all draw with Motherwell) on the same trip that brought the shirt into my possession. Needless to say it was a fun way to cap off a fun night. Now to see about finding a way to display it!
There is also a picture of me (in my County top) with Sculptor?!, Craig and Charlie, but let’s just say that one of us is a) old, b) overweight, c) doesn’t photograph well, or d) all of the above. I’ll keep it for posterities sake, but I don’t think I’ll be showing it around any time soon!
P.S.: I saw Charlie on the sidewalk “downtown” a few hours before the show, watched him do a double take when he recognized my Ross County top (which I wore to the show…natch!), and told him I was looking forward to the performance. I then wondered how he processed that encounter, “No, Craig, really, a new Ross County away top! How? Why?”
