Viva Las Vegas: Day Four

Makes me a bit wistful, if I'm honest.

Makes me a bit wistful, if I’m honest.

Things wind down a bit today, but it doesn’t really matter because the highlight of the day is going to be BBQ for lunch at Rolling Smoke with my old colleague at Avoiding the Drop and one of my biggest supporters here since Day One, Kevin.

Kevin and I have been internet friends since back in the “pre-purge” days of DUAN at Deadspin, through our time together at ATD, and right through to the present, but this will be our first meeting in the real world.  I’m looking forward to this as much as just about anything else on this adventure.

After lunch, and likely sweating pork fat and barbecue sauce, it’s back to the music and the lovely ladies for one more day before jetting out on Monday morning and returning to the real world.  Taking a couple of extra days off from work after I get back is starting to look like a really good idea.

I would like to state for the record and publicly that having met in the “real” world for the first time that both WeeFuse and Dan were as awesome as I expected them to be.

We enjoyed some BBQ (which they generously paid for) and a short walk through the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop (of Pawn Stars fame). But more importantly we had a great two hours of conversation and time together.

Thanks guys, I truly had wonderful time and hope that our real world paths cross again!

Thank you for your kind words, Kevin. I’ll say here publicly what I said to you privately earlier: you were exactly the kind of guy in person that you’ve been online over the past 7-8 years- it was a pleasure to finally meet you.

  2. Glad you two met! Is that 2 or 3 folks you’ve met from your online writing experience? Sculptor doesn’t count…..

I joined in the spirit of things and took the day off and wished I had bbq.

3 excluding Sculptor?! and all of those old-time DUAN members I met at the Chicago “Pants Party” years ago.
