Johan Cruyff (1947-2016)

Johan Cruyff passed away today at the age of 68.

I can’t really think of anything clever to say about this, so I hope this will suffice:

If somebody you know, a magazine you read, a website you visit is putting together an “All-Time Best XI” that doesn’t include Cruyff you can assume the person, publication, or site has no credibility.  He was that good.  Need to be convinced?  Watch-

Johan Cruyff may finish second to Pelé in many ways, but rest assured that it was Cruyff that pioneer football in the way we know it and play it today.

Rust in vrede, nummer veertien.

ps:  I hope you watched the whole thing, the “crazy” starts about halfway through.

Pretty safe to say he’s the greatest #14 there’s ever been…..

My introduction to him came as a young lad watching him play for the LA Aztecs in the NASL. He made an amazing run in a game to win in overtime in the playoffs on what had been about 100 degree day if I remember correctly. I remember thinking “He just wants to end the game and go home.” Get the hell out of my way boys, kinda moment.
