Last year K.A.A. Gent won the Belgian Pro League for the first time since their founding in 1900. As you might imagine, this was kind of a big deal for the club, so they decided to celebrate with a special shirt- a very special shirt. Behold-
Bow tie? Check.
Pocket square? Check.
Ruffled shirt? Check.
Suit jacket? Check.
Sadly, the only thing I can’t find out- I don’t speak…Belgish?- is whether this was a championship shirt in the sense that the players/supporters wore it during time following their win, or if this is an actual uniform top that they will be worn this season. It might be, as it goes with the club’s dark blue shorts and socks. Whatever the case, it’s FANTASTIC! Right up their with the German clubs that make Oktoberfest and Karneval tops to wear on special occasions.
I also discovered a new kit maker in the process of putting this post together- “Jartazi.” As best I can tell Jartazi are a Belgian company mainly known for outfitting and sponsoring cycling teams. Only recently have they started making football kits, outfitting KAA Gent and a hand full of other Belgian clubs.
