WeeFuse’s Weekend Plans

Thanks, Ben.

Thanks, Ben.

So, many months ago Sculptor!? asked me if I’d run in a 10K with her this Saturday.  I said, “yes,” but I also remember replying to her invitation at about 4:00 in the morning- that should have been my first clue.  Let’s look at some of the other factors involved in this impending debacle.

I’ve never run a 10K before?  Plenty of 5Ks, but never a 10K.

I hate running outside of the context of soccer.

My entire summer’s worth of training was two 10K run/walks?  What?!  It was really hot this summer, I mean, like, every day!  Also, I like to take naps.

I also don’t know if the course is cross-country, road, or some of both.

What could possibly go wrong?

Oh well, here’s the positive spin on it:

  • I get to hang with a friend for a few days.
  • The race t-shirts are supposed to be pretty cool.
  • My impending failure has motivated me to get in shape for indoor season.

Finally, I promise you that I will finish the race.  I also promise you that you will never know how long it took me to do so.

See you Monday.

    >> neither have I.

    >> I hate running. For some odd reason, I do it anyway. But then again, you are aware that I am insane.

    >>My training: I walked 10k. Once. Back in April. Several 2 mile runs, but only if it was under 75° Because heat is awful and cruel.

I also don’t know if the course is cross-country, road, or some of both.
    >>I’ve been told it’s a mix. BUT THERE ARE COUCHES ON THE COURSE. And CAKE. No, I’m not shitting you. COUCHES AND CAKE.

    What could possibly go wrong?
    >>They don’t need to know the answer to this.

    >>WOO! That’s the best part!

The race t-shirts are supposed to be pretty cool.
    >>Also a fabulous thing. Also, CAKE.

My impending failure has motivated me to get in shape for indoor season.
    >>I have to lose weight so that I can gain it all back on holiday baking/cooking. Same difference. What?!? Holiday food is serious business, and a sport in my house.

    >>I shall also finish. My main goal is to do so without injury. I’ll also never tell. NEVER.

PS. Thanks for the encouragement, Ben. You jerk.

You both realize that nearly every race now posts finish times online. So unless you’re registered under an alias, anyone of your devious followers could ferret this “time thing” out..😈

Technically that’s still neither of us telling. Also, I hate you. 😉

I imagine Fuse crossing the finish line limping on one leg, favoring the other, while Sculptor walks beside him eating from a plate of cake she’s holding and saying “Are you sure you don’t want some? It’s delish!”

Well, I broke my toe so you have the limping part right. I also finished 20 minutes ahead of Sculptor?! 🙂

At that point, finishing without further injury was the only goal. 😛 And he always runs faster than I do anyhow; Fuse waiting around for my slow self was a given.
