Today features what might be the highlight of our trip: we’ll be traveling about an hour north of Milwaukee to Elkhart Lake, WI where we’ll be attending the VSCDA Elkhart Lake Vintage Festival at Road America. Put in plain English, we’ll be watching an entire day of vintage automobile and motorcycle razing and our tickets also grant us access to the paddock area so we’ll be able to nose around all of these machines when they aren’t out on the track.
Somewhat-relatedly, I’m hoping that among all of the various merchants I will be able to find one selling a Magneti Marelli t-shirt. I’m not exactly sure what they make (something electronic for race cars), but their (great) logo reminds me of watching Formula One races on ABC’s Wide World of Sports when I was a kid. Same goes for something from Martini Racing, whose logo was plastered all over rally cars when I was a young man.
Anyway, after our day at the races we’ll head back to Milwaukee for authentic German food at the famous Kegel’s Inn. Kegel’s has been a Milwaukee institution since 1924 and I’m looking forward to some goulash, noodles, and who knows what else!?
