Milwaukee: Day One

Today Dan and I will begin our Milwaukee adventure by taking a tour of the Pabst Mansion- one of the few gems of America’s “Gilded Age” that is not located in Newport, RI.  If I am not mistaken, at the end of the tour we will each receive a Tame Impala album (on colored vinyl), a pair of vintage jorts, and a Mason Jar full of kale.

Lunch time will be spent at Gloriosos Italian Market where there is a 99.99% chance that I will do something to horrify Dan.  He will order something that contains…what are they called again, fresh vegetables?  I will probably get the “Chicago Combo” sandwich (Italian sausage AND Italian beef) and think I’m doing well because the “hot giardinera” is made with vegetables.  It doesn’t really matter, he’ll be doing the driving so my food coma will only have consequences for me.

Following lunch we’re off to the Sprecher Brewery for a tour, and just as importantly, for plenty of sampling at the end of the tour.  Dan will be as close to heaven as he has ever been, and since Sprecher also brews almost a dozen sodas (including Root Beer, Cherry, Raspberry, Blueberry, and Red Apple), I won’t be far behind!  Chances are I will be driving after this stop!

After that it’s off to the Three Lions Pub for dinner.  There is nothing healthy on the menu here (it’s a British pub-style restaurant after all!) so Dan will probably indulge in items of both the solid and liquid variety.  I’ve already decided what I’m going to have:  sausage rolls with gravy to start, bangers & mash (yes, more sausage and more gravy!), and for dessert…a wee lie down.

At this point we will probably be so bloated and travel weary that we’ll probably retire to our hotel for the rest of the evening, but if something good is playing at the historic Oriental Theater, who knows!
