Ross County F.C. midfielder (not on-loan Celtic F.C. midfielder!) Jackson Irvine has been called-up by Australian National Team head coach Ange Postecoglou to take part in the country’s next two World Cup qualifying matches against Bangladesh and Tajikistan.
Irvine earned one previous cap with the Socceroos when he came on in a substitute in a friendly against Canada and the form he has shown over the past two seasons playing for County has given him the chance to make a spot for himself in the Australia set-up. Players, it must be said, who come from much more fashionable clubs (Valencia, Bayer Leverkusen, Celtic, etc.) and leagues (La Liga, the Eredivisie, the Premier League, the Bundesliga) that wee Ross County of the Scottish Premiership.
If there’s any downside to this achievement it’s that Irvine could possibly miss the August 29th match against Dundee United and the September 12 match against Motherwell, but one has to expect this when one is dealing with a big time club that has international players on the roster, doesn’t one? 😉
