The RCFC players show their appreciation for the traveling support, or at least those “well” enough to attend the match against Soroskár SC.
After three preseason matches Ross County F.C. remain undefeated. County opened with a 2-1 win over Nairn County F.C. (Highland League), followed by a 5-3 victory over Elgin City F.C. (League Two), and this afternoon drew 1-1 against Soroskár SC in the first half of their Hungarian training tour. Today’s match featured one penalty kick in each half, the first by Soroskár after a player was taken down in the box by County goalkeeper Scott Fox and the second converted by Ross County’s Midge Gardyne after he was taken down in the box by a Soroskár player. County next play Szolnoki MÁV.
Ross County Junior F.C. Brora Rangers F.C. manager Davie Kirkwood has abruptly resigned from his post to focus on his “business ventures.” This strikes me as a bit odd. Lead club to back-to-back league titles, just miss out on promotion to League Two, continue to recruit and sign “League level” talent during the close season (Richard Brittain, for example), and then walk away only weeks before the opening of the season. Smells fishy.
Major League Soccer has released pictures of the kits (well, one of them anyway, I assume the other is “blue based”) ahead of the All-Star match. They are predictably terrible.
No, I am not going to lower myself to discussing the inclusion of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard as “commissioner’s picks” in said All-Star match. Andre Pirlo must have said something to piss Garber off as he has not been selected to play.
Manchester United released their first kits under their new 1000 year, kajillion dollar deal with Adidas and they are…fine. A little retro looking, I guess. Truthfully, my first thought was, “Darren Fletcher will look GREAT in that kit!” Of course, for that to happen he’ll have to pop out to JD Sports and buy the kit himself…’mon the Baggies!
USMNT manager Jurgen Klinsmann has used one of his Gold Cup roster “do-over” spots to call Damarcus Beasley into the squad. I love DMB, but really, he is what has been “missing” in the underwhelming opening matches played by the U.S.?
I’m going to the New England Revolution v. New York City F.C. match on Saturday where there is a good chance I’ll pick-up one of the Jose Goncalves bobble-heads being given away. Goncalves won’t be playing of course because he’s suspended after purposely (In my opinion…) picking up two yellow cards in humiliating loss to New York Red Bulls last weekend. It may take all of my self-control (and then some!) not to hurl it onto the plastic grass if the Revs bottle this match as well.
