Why, you may ask, would I endure an almost eight hour train trip from Thurso to the relative nowhere-ness of Denny, Falkirk?
The answer is simple: I’m a nerd…and a loyal grandson.
Denny Cemetery (above) is the resting place of most of the members of my family who did not emigrate to the United States in the 1930s, including my great uncle, who died as a young boy.
Beyond that Denny doesn’t have much to recommend it. It’s the home of Dunipace Juniors F.C. as well as the birthplace of Everton winger and Scottish traitor Aiden McGeady and Dr. Kenny Deuchar, who played a single season for Real Salt Lake and now plies both of his trades- striker and medical doctor- in Arbroath.
See you in Glasgow for the final segment of my trip!
