Days 11-13: Orkney

The Flag of Orkney

The Flag of Orkney

Today I travel north from Inverness to Thurso (technically the nearby port of Scrabster- what a name!) where I will board the ferry for the trip to Stromness in the Orkney Islands.  This trip will add two milestones to my Scotland list- my furthest venture north on the Scottish mainland (only nearby Dunnett Head is further north), and my furthest venture north in Scotland overall.  I’m especially excited about this leg of my trip for these reasons- and obviously I’ve never been to either place before- but also because I’m going to get to see some pretty amazing things once I get to Orkney- a place that wasn’t even on my original itinerary when I started planning my trip!

So, until I return to the mainland and check back in…
