Welp, former (x2) Ross County forward Andy Barrowman has left League One title hopefuls Greenock Morton “by mutual consent.” This news alone is keeping me form checking any of the various County message boards. Barrowman was joint-recond top scorer for Greenock thus far which makes me think that others will think that he needs to come back to Dingwall. He doesn’t.
Former Ross County F.C. forward Yoann Arquin is reportedly training with fellow strugglers St. Mirren F.C. and could be in the Saints line-up on Saturday to face County. Good for the Midden, I hope they get the same disinterest and lack of production that he gave County over the course of his time there. Oh, and a word of advice, keep an eye on him- he tends to wander.
Both Celtic and Sheffield United are after current Scotland and Dundee United (and Ross County youth product!) Gary Mackay-Steven. This could be an important move for the Thurso native as it will probably be his last one before he takes a shot at the true “big time.” Mackay-Steven is 24 and a good showing for his next club (and in Scotland’s EURO 2016) qualification matches could be the key to his moving to a club in the Premiership or its equivalent.
USMNT midfielder Mix Diskerud has signed with New York City F.C. for the 2015 MLS season. I would say that the club looks suspiciously “stacked” for their inaugural season, but since Frank Lampard will NEVER play for them it looks like it will be up to Diskerud and David Villa take up the slack.
If you are reading this and you play for Swedish top-flight side Halmstads BK…I’m sorry. Why am I sorry? This is why I’m sorry. I feel like there isn’t a rec league in the world where there isn’t a U11 side wearing these with unbranded black shorts and socks. Enjoy the orange slices at halftime!
What does it say about Chicago Fire SC that Scottish international Shaun Maloney chose relegation locks Leicester City over them? What does it say about Shaun Maloney that he chose relegation locks Leicester Cit over (allegedly) Everton, Aston Villa, Sunderland, and Burnley? The latter two I guess are understandable.
So the New York Red Bulls make it to the semi-finals and fire Mike Petke. Okay, I guess. But the solution is to hire Jessie Marsch and his one year of experience with the Montreal Impact as the replacement? That’s a little hard to swallow. Perhaps with Thierry Henry gone expectations are down and cost cutting needs to take place both on and off the field?
In former New England Revolution news, occasionally-effective forward Saer Sene has signed with Championship side Blackpool F.C. for the remainder of the season after finishing the 2014 season with the New York Red Bulls. Barely-a-Rev Geoffrey Castillion (1 match, 14 minutes) has signed with Romania’s F.C. Universitatea Cluj, Cluj are currently in (distant) second place in the Romanian top division.
