About a month ago Shellac released their first new album in seven years (and only their fifth in the band’s 20 year history), “Dude, Incredible,” and I am digging the bejeezus out of it. Granted, Shellac is not a group for everyone, just has founder/guitarist/vocalist Steve Albini’s first group, Big Black, was not a band for everyone. But give them a chance. Here is the title song from the new album complete with INCREDIBLE drumming by Todd Trainer as well as a few “hits” from the group’s past. Oh, and since it’s Shellac you can assume the songs are both “NSFW” and, um, not safe for all “sensibilities.”
That’ll do for now- and I’m getting fired-up just listening to these songs- but a final word before I go.
Even if you’ve never heard of Shellac, or Big Black, or Steve Albini, you should know that Albini’s Electric Audio recording studio in Chicago is a) probably the country’s best, b) that he’ll work as an audio engineer for anybody, but that he charges groups/artists he doesn’t like more money than those he likes, c) he charges “popular” bands/artists more, and d) here’s just a partial list of people he’s recorded as an audio engineer/producer:
