My world has pretty much turned upside down over the last few days- first the Revolution signed USMNT World Cup star Jermaine Jones (the less said about how this actually happened, the better) and today they signed another forward, Dutchman Geoffrey Castillion…who may or may not be good, but that’s not the point! The point is that he can’t be any worse than Jerry Bengston!
Castillion is a native of Amersterdam and a former Dutch youth international who was on the books at famed Dutch club Ajax from 2005 until earlier this year. While he only made one league appearance with the club he had successful loan periods in the Eredivisie and Erstedivie with RKC Waalwijk, Heracles Almelo, NEC, and the Ajax reserve side. All in all, he scored 11 times in 66 loan appearances. Not “great” on the face of it, but if you crunch the numbers a bit his total minutes on loan add up to more like 40 matches with 11 goals, which would put him- THEORETICALLY- in a 10-12 goal/season bracket for MLS. Nice potential if nothing else. Castillion also scored twice in 9 KNVB Cup matches for the three clubs he was loaned to during his time at Ajax.
Revolution general manager Mike Burns described the 6’3″ 23 year old as a, “big, strong target forward,” who will, “add a different dynamic to our attack and also give us more options up front.”
Castillion is expected to join the club as soon as his paperwork is approved.
