Our long footballing nightmare is finally over- or at least half of it.
Today Ross County F.C. announced the signing of three players from the group of six trialists who have been in Dingwall for several weeks now. The first two, Jordi Balk (#20) and Benedict “Ben” Frempah (#18) have already been discussed here, but the third, the “mystery Belgian” may be the most interesting of the bunch.
Tim Dreesen, age 27, is a seasoned professional, having played for a decade in the the top two tiers of Belgian and Dutch football. Most recently on the books at Erstedivisie (2nd tier) side Fortuna Sittard, the 6’3″ center back has also played for Lierse S.K. and Club Brugge KV among others. Dreesen was also a Belgian youth international through the U20 level.
The club believes all three players can play in the midfield or across the back line, but given that the club only has two other defenders on the roster at present, it’s likely it will be defense first, midfield second. Unless of course the club’s remaining signings are defensive players. If that’s the case it will be up to Frempah- and to a lesser extent, Balk- to challenge the incumbent midfielders (Brittain, de Leeuw, etc.) for a spot in the starting line-up.
Here’s hoping for a few more big signings after the weekend!
