You may remember that Agudelo chose not to resign with the New England Revolution after joining them in mid-season last year from Chivas U.S.A. in order to pursue a future in the Premiership. Despite initially being denied a work permit Stoke still signed him and then immediately shipped him off to F.C. Utrecht in the Eredivisie in the hope that regular playing time in a top league for half a season would work in his favor when he reapplied for a work permit to play in England- it didn’t. This week the U.K. Work Permit Appeal Board has rejected Juan Agudelo’s application for a second time, making a move to Stoke City F.C. seem all but impossible at this point, which raises the following question, “Is there a chance he returns to MLS,” even if only to bide his time before making another attempt to move overseas?
If he does, I believe the New England Revolution still own his rights, and wouldn’t that make things interesting?
