Yesterday the New England Revolution announced that they had claimed former team captain Shalrie Joseph of the waiver wire and added him to the club’s roster.
Joseph, who spent 2012 with Chivas USA and 2013 with Seattle Sounders- made a club record 261 appearances during his first decade with the club (2003-2012) and has likely been added to the roster in order to provide cover in the midfield, but he’s also shown the ability to score goals- scoring 21 between 2009 and 2011- and to fill-in in the back line when need.
Perhaps more important than anything he does on the field will be the veteran leadership he can provide off of it to a very young and very talent Revolution side. As a four-time MLS Best XI selection and an eight-time MLS All-Star selection Joseph has the kind of experience and achievement that players like Farrell, Neumann, Mullins, and Smith will soak up like sponges if they know what’s good for them.
Whether he plays or not this weekend his presence at the match will add a much needed level of excitement to the proceedings.
See you soon, Shalrie!
