Lord Rosebery’s colors are back!
Archibald Primrose, 5th Earl Rosebery was one of the Scottish F.A.’s earliest supporters and in his honor Scotland have worn his colors (primrose and yell0w) as part of their away or third kits- and occasionally as their home kit!- seven times since 1881. This time around they have both colors (despite what this picture shows you the color on the shirt is very much pink/primrose, not red) and they have also given a visual nod (horizontal stripes/hoops) to the template worn as an away/third shirts by Scotland in the 1980s.
This shirt and overall kit (white shorts and socks trimmed with pink/primrose and yellow) will certainly not be everyone’s cup of tea, and objectively speaking it may be ugly, but I love it! It is simple- words like “clean” and “crisp” come to mind and it picks one design element- Lord Rosebery’s colors- and sticks with them.
Getting back to the shorts and socks, I think it’s fairly safe to say that they will be white with pink/primrose Adidas stripes and maybe a flash of yellow somewhere. As it happens I have a new picture that gives a partial look at the shorts and shows the “red” as a more pink/primrose color (see the overlay on the right side of the picture) as I mentioned above:
It would be nice to see some yellow trim around the bottom of those shorts, but I guess we’ll wait for more pictures, won’t we?
As for the socks, well, I can only hope that they go with a customized version of the Adidas “Team Speed” sock:
In closing, unload your scorn on this shirt if you wish, but I love it and can’t wait to see the whole kit together!
‘mon the Scots!
