This is supposedly the 2014 Real Salt Lake home shirt. Obviously I’d like to see a few more pictures of it before making any final decision, but as is, I like it. I’m not sure how I feel about the stripe extending onto the sleeves, but other than that, no complaints.
One reason I like it is that- at least until the rest of the 2014 MLS clubs release their kits and I am proven wrong- it doesn’t look like just one more kit from the Adidas catalog that has been rendered in RSL colors. For the moment, it looks unique and it does so without resorting to gimmickry or by “trying to hard.”
Another reason I like this top is that it has a vaguely European and vaguely retro look to it. Rendered in different colors it looks like something that Olympique de Marseille or Paris Saint-German might have worn in the early 1990s- probably with a nice satin finish to the fabric as well.
So we’ll wait and see if this turns out to be the “real deal” (see what I did there?), but for now I’m picturing it with “cobalt” blue shorts and “claret” red socks with “Real gold” cuffs and liking it very much.
