Ross County F.C. have apparently decided that the best way to introduce forward Jordan Slew is to…have him in the starting line-up in today’s Highland Derby match against Inverness Caledonian Thistle F.C.! As I reported here a while back, there were rumors that County were interested in taking the former Sheffield United and current Blackburn Rovers player on loan, but after the initial speculation his name never resurfaced.
Slew has to be looked at as a bit of a mystery. He’s talented enough to have earned a four year contract with Rovers (after they paid Sheffield United £1.1m to get him) and to have played for England at the U19 level, but at the same time he’s only made one appearance for Blackburn and his other 35 appearances between Sheffield United, Stevenage, Oldham, and Rotherham (the latter three on loan) only produced four goals. At Rotherham (his most recent loan destination) he played regularly over a six week loan period during a season which saw the club promoted from League Two to League One and the club did want to extend his loan/sign him permanently, so that might be a bit of good news as far as his form is concerned.
Whatever the case he will surely get the proverbial “baptism by fire” today in the Highland Derby!
