UPDATE: If the Cardiff City fan forums are to be believed this is a “done deal” and Kiss will join County on loan during the January transfer window. Obviously the loan is likely to be for just the second half of the season with any longer or more permanent move to be discussed at that time.
I’ve already brought you the first round of rumors regarding players who might join Ross County F.C. during the January transfer window. Today I bring you the latest name to make the rounds on Twitter and the inter webs- Filip Kiss.
Kiss, a 23 year old midfielder currently under contract with Cardiff City F.C. in the Premier League, is a Slovakian who has represented- and captained- his country at the U19 and U21 level. Kiss began his career in the lower leagues in Slovakia with FK Inter Bratislava (fourth tier), but quickly moved up the ranks with FC Petrzalka 1898 (then in the second tier), and finally to the better known top flight side SK Slovan Bratislava, where he was an integral part of a side that won the Slovakian domestic double.
Although a regular contributor to Cardiff’s efforts in 2011-2012 while he was on a season long loan from Slovan Bratislava, his role was reduced during the 2012-2013 campaign when the club strengthened itself as it made a (successful) push for promotion to the Premier League. Nevertheless, Kiss has compiled 100 senior level appearances (chipping in with a respectable 11 goals) and developed a reputation as a very tough tackler.
Perhaps the only unfortunate(?) side effect of Kiss being signed by Ross County is that another midfielder would likely be shown the door- it could well be Alex Cooper, who has shown some loan interest by clubs in the English lower divisions.
Let the nicknaming begin!
