Ross County F.C. 1 – 2 Celtic F.C.

Debuting with a "Goal of the Season" strike? Nice.

Debuting with a “Goal of the Season” strike? Nice.

Is it possible to be gleeful after a loss?

Perhaps I better explain.

Last year this fixture ended with County losing 4-1.

Today it was 2-1 and County were without Melvin de Leeuw (injured), Richard Brittain (suspended), and Ivan Sproule (suspended).  Here’s a little more context:  all three were probable starters, Brittain is the club captain, and Brittain and Sproule were the clubs top and joint-second top scorer last season.

Today’s starting line-up contained five players (Maatsen, Luckassen, Gordon, McLean, and Carey) who are new to the club this year and another (Mcic) making his first ever start for the club.

Graham Carey almost scored with a Richard Brittain-like free kick.

Mark Brown looked great in goal.

Darren Maatsen- he of the 3rd minute goal- was a handful for the Celtic defense today.  Once he gains some strength and can hold defenders off the ball, well, he’s going to be tough to stop.

It was an away match against the best team in the league.

We’re going to be just fine this year, folks.  Just fine.
