I’m not, in principle, against all black kits. That being said, black has become the “new teal.” Remember that period in the 1990s when every football (Panthers, Jaguars), basketball (Hornets), baseball (Devil Rays, Diamond Backs, Rockies), and hockey team (Ducks, Sharks) had a uniform trimmed with some sort of blue-green-purple nonsense? The black version of that is currently, well, everywhere.
I actually don’t mind this shirt- on its own. It is simple, straight-forward, goes with one styling element (the white trimmed collar and placket), and the green of the Hibernian crest (an excellent one as things go) pops out quite nicely. Paired with white shorts and socks I think you might have a decent looking away kit. That, of course, is not what Hibernian have done. Instead, they have outfitted their players in what basically amounts to a tuxedo.
Again, on their own, these shorts are nice. I might have gone with a white side stripe/piping to mirror the white trim on the shirt, but that’s not much more than nit-picking. I could see these looking quite nice with a white shirt and shorts both trimmed in black. But no, that would not complete the look.
These aren’t bad, but they’re not great either. I think the problem is the cuffs. I think they needed to have either two distinct white chevrons with black cuffs above them, or just the one white chevron with with black cuffs.
So, there we go. The only thing missing is a white limousine and an awkward prom date.
Which leaves us here:
