Well, it’s not as though it’s the Champions League, but that hardly matters, does it?
Ross County F.C.’s full senior roster (and probably some of the U20 squad as well) will make the hour long trip up the coast to Dudgeon Park in Brora where they will play the first team of Highland League side Brora Rangers F.C.. Brora finished a respectable 8th in the 18 team last season and should provide a good early season test for County.
This match also kicks off Ross County’s annual “tour” of the Highlands/Highland League, which helps these clubs by bringing in a bigger gate than usual (especially now that County are an “SPL” club!) and in return generates the region-wide support that makes it possible for County to succeed in the Scottish top flight despite having a stadium that holds more people than there are in the town of Dingwall!
There are also multiple connections between the clubs. Brora are sponsored by Stanley CRC-Evans Offshore, as County are, and there are a number of current players who have played for both clubs. Brora’s roster includes former County goalkeeper Joe Malin, defenders Stuart Golabek, Ross Tokely, and Richard Hastings, and midfielders Russell Duncan and Richie Hart. Current Ross County player midfielder Steven Ross spent time at Brora on loan as well.
‘mon the County!
