The fixtures are in, let the fun begin!

The 2013-2014 Scottish Premier League fixtures were released today and suffice it to say there are some tasty match-ups to be found and, more importantly, the football gods have been very kind to yours truly vis-a-vis may March 2014 vacation.

I know better than to bore you by listing each and every match day and making a comment on it, so I’ll just stick to the highlights.

(home side listed first)

Saturday August 3, 2013: Celtic v Ross County

That’s a pretty good “day out” to begin the season- and given recent results, there’s a good chance we’ll make the trip back to Dingwall with some points to show for it.

Saturday August 17, 2013:  St Johnstone v Ross County

Oh boy!  Away to St. Johnstone…this could be interesting.  If Ross County captain Richard Brittain is still Ross County captain Richard Brittain and not “unpopular St. Johnstone signing Richard Brittain” when this match day arrives McDiarmid Park is going to be rocking.  No fear, however, if Brittain is still a Staggie I suspect there County traveling support will be massive.

Saturday September 21, 2013:  Ross County v Hearts

Who knows what club will actually show up to contest this match-up?  The two options are most likely a Hearts team made up of the players the club couldn’t unload and hastily-promoted youth players, or, Greenock Morton F.C..

Saturday October 26, 2013:  Ross County v Inverness CT

First Highland Derby of the season and at home- nothing more need be said.

Saturday November 9, 2013:
Ross County v Celtic

Home against the defending champions, points are even more likely than in the first match of the season!

Saturday November 23, 2013:  Hearts v Ross County

Again, who knows what will happen?  This match could be played at Tynecastle Stadium, or, if it is sold out from under the club so that the club’s creditors can pay their creditors- and this is a possibility- or it could be played in a Tesco’s parking lot.  Or, it could be played at Cappielow Park in Greenock against Greenock Morton!

Saturday December 14, 2013:  Ross County v Motherwell

This match will mark the first visit of Iain Vigurs and Paul Lawson to Victoria Park since they both transferred to Motherwell and I’m confident of two things:  First, they will receive a warm welcome at the beginning of the match and a fond farewell at the end, and second, that they’ll take a lot of stick in between!

Wednesday January 1, 2014:
Inverness CT v Ross County

First away Highland Derby of the season.

Saturday January 4, 2014:  Ross County v St Johnstone

If Richard Brittain is still with County St. Johnstone’s traveling supporters, management, and administration are likely to be in for a long day at the hands of the County home support.  If Brittain is forced to move to St. Johnstone those groups are probably still in for a long day.

Saturday January 11, 2014:
Partick Thistle v Ross County

Ross County’s first trip to Firhill Stadium to meet newly promoted Partick Thistle and the first meeting between the two sides since they were both in the First Division in March of 2012.

Saturday March 1:  Ross County v Partick Thistle

This match will mark the first visit of Iain Vigurs and Paul Lawson to Victoria Park since they both transferred to Motherwell and I’m confident of two things:  First, they will receive a warm welcome at the beginning of the match and a fond farewell at the end, and second, that they’ll take a lot of stick in between!

Saturday March 15, 2014:
St Johnstone v Ross County

This match is important because it marks the opening of my “window” as far as matches I may have a chance to see while on vacation.  While I’d love to be at McDiarmid Park for this given all of the controversy surrounding Richard Brittain and his pre-contract agreement…

Saturday March 22, 2014:
Motherwell v Ross County

…but this is much more likely to be my first match as I will fly into Glasgow and the train trip to Motherwell runs on 15-30 minutes depending on the time of day.  It would also be my first trip to Fir Park Stadium, and this is also the club that my family supported when they lived in nearby Bellshill!

Wednesday March 26, 2014:
Ross County v Aberdeen, 7.45pm

This match is significant for two reasons:  First it’s a rare midweek match- which means it’s basically a “bonus” match for me- and it’s a night match making it easier to get to if I have to travel that day, and I’ve never been to Victoria Park at night!

Saturday March 29, 2014:
Celtic v Ross County

I will likely go to this match as well- and I’ve never been to Celtic Park!

Saturday April 5, 2014

Ross County v Inverness CT

The last “scheduled” Highland Derby of the season and the last match before the “split” takes place, so this match will be like at “Highland Derby Plus”- and to see the derby at home right before returning to the States?  Wowzers.

Well, I can’t tell you just how giddy that last section made me- I’m off to put together a preliminary itinerary!
