Today Ross County F.C. defender Scott Boyd became the 10th current player to resign with the club for the 2013-2014 season. With Paul Lawson having moved on to Motherwell Boyd is now the club’s longest serving player with next year being his 7th in Dingwall. Put another way, Boyd has been with the club since they dipped down into the Second Division for a season in 2007-2008. Boyd’s return also means that four of County’s six top defenders have already re-signed with the club. County had the fourth best defense in the Scottish Premier League this season, but should they re-sign both Andre Hainault and Evangelos Oikonomu- both of whom became starters after joining the club in January- the defense should be even better.
Should County be able to hold on to Hainault and Oikonomu, as well as Iain Vigurs, the club should be well-off even if Richard Brittain is eventually forced to go to St. Johnstone and Steffan Wohlfarth chooses to return to Switzerland. Hanging on to Mark Brown would be great too, but my guess is that Derek Adams is looking to upgrade at the goalkeeping position and that Brown will probably moving on as Michael Fraser has already signed. It would also be nice to retain the services of Mark Fotheringham (who played his best football as the season was coming to an end), but if he goes, he goes.
