Paul Lawson = Highland Jesus?

While flitting through Twitter this afternoon I came across a Tweet from @RossCoStats which stopped me in my tracks.  I was aware that Ross County were undefeated since midfielder Paul Lawson’s return from injury/Derek Adam’s “naughty step.”  What I was not aware of was that- and read this slowly and carefully- Ross County F.C. have not lost in Paul Lawson’s last 43 appearances.  As an historian I well know the difference between a “causal” and a “coincidental” relationship, but a sample size of 43 matches is a pretty good one- “statistically” significant as they say.

So, in addition to his ability to link the Ross County back line with the midfield, to clean up messes in front of the back line, and to distribute the ball with uncanny accuracy, Paul Lawson apparently also possesses talismanic qualities.  Who knew?

Full Disclosure:  I’m a bit of a Paul Lawson fanboy.  Every week I wear these for my men’s 40+ indoor soccer league match-

I love Paul Lawson and what he brings to the County team, he’s spent an awful long time not getting the credit where it’s due for his influence, good to see people realising the he is the lynchpin of the side, not Richie Brittain, not Vigurs

Our team is…usually competitive. We don’t have many subs so if we’re not winning by about the 3/4 mark of the match it’s all over.

Ha! Sounds like the year my softball team went 2-10 with 5 losses in the final at bat. Might have been the most competitive team of the 6 or so seasons we played, but just good enough to lose close.
