I got the email I was halfway-dreading last night: I now belong to a men’s 40+ indoor team called- if you couldn’t tell from the picture above- “G.B.U. F.C.” I have no doubt that we will live up (down?) to our very colorful nickname. Just for some perspective, the last time I was on a 40+ team I was one of the “underage” players.
In practical terms what all of this means is that tomorrow after work I’ll need to go out and buy a green shirt (our primary color) and a white shirt (our “change” shirt).
Oh, and I’ve got a week to improve my fitness (our first match kicks off at 9pm on Election Night), I can’t imagine that going well.
Hey…this can’t be a worse fitness expectation than your duathlon from a few weeks ago can it?
But seriously, be safe. I had a friend who kept playing until his ankles were so bad the doctor had to bluntly ask him: “Do you want to play soccer? Or do you want to walk?”
Sucker. I mean, good for you! And as Kevin said, be safe/smart – I’d rather not be needling you about this whilst pushing you about in a wheelchair (although, I’d be able to outrun you for once). ;P
Have fun out there and break a le—good luck.
