If he captains Chelsea against Shaktar Donetsk in the Champions League on today John Terry will wear a “Unite Against Racism” captain’s armband provided by the “Kick It Out” campaign.
You can’t make this stuff up can you?
If that’s not enough for you…
…he’ll be walking onto the pitch (as will all of the other players) “be accompanied…by children wearing ‘Unite Against Racism’ T-shirts…”
Ohhh, the children!!
I don’t want to “pile on,” but as somebody trained as an historian of Europe (specifically in post-Industrial Revolution Europe) I can’t help but point out that the location of Tuesday’s match- Ukraine- has a bit of a “spotty” track record when it comes to prejudices of all kinds. Enough of a track record that it even has it’s own page on Wikipedia.
And sub-pages.
And sub-sub pages.
And sub-sub-sub pages.
I don’t mean to pick on Ukraine, just to add another layer of interest to today’s match.
Remember, Ukraine is not the enemy here, John Terry is.
