Believe it or not, these are real, functional shin guards. They belong to my 4 year old niece, Sadie, who starts organized soccer for the first time in a few weeks. The hands belong to my sister in-law, who, despite what you might think from this picture, does not have freakishly large appendages.
On a related note, you may be wondering if I am “doing my part” in making sure that Sadie grows up liking the “right” kind of football? I am. Sadie has a full New England Revolution tracksuit, a New England Revolution t-shirt, her own pair of Sambas, and to take her gear to her first “match” she has a Boston Breakers gym sack and mini ball (What?! I thought the league would last!), and her own set of practice cones.
I also bought her first baseball glove (you’d be surprised how hard it is to find a real, leather glove for somebody who would wear shin guards as small as the one above!) which she used for t-ball this spring.
She also had a Johnny Cash and a Ramones onesie when she was little(r) because, well, I’ve got to start her on the right path musically as well.
…get in there Sadie Claire!!
Where’s the ‘love’ button around here?
Now the real quesiton is…are you gonna be the crazy uncle on the sidelines scaring every kid who ISN”T Sadie?
Naahh…I didn’t think so either.
I will be going to one of her games, but I will not ever be THAT guy!
