The Tanner Ba’ would like to join the rest of the football world in sending condolences to Claudio Reyna and his family on the passing of Jack Reyna from cancer and the far-too-young age of 13. It says all you need to know about both Jack and Claudio that Claudio former clubs and teammates have flooded the internet with messages of sympathy for the Reyna family. If you’d like to make a donation to Claudio’s foundation in honor of young Jack you can click here.
In honor of Claudio’s time in Scotland I include the following with a few slight alterations
A Father’s Lament for his Son’s Death
by Robert Burns
FATE gave the word, the arrow sped,
And pierc’d my darling’s heart;
And with him all the joys are fled
Life can to me impart.
by cruel hands the sapling drops,
In dust dishonour’d laid;
So fell the pride of all my hopes,
My age’s future shade.
The father-linnet in the brake
Bewails his ravish’d young;
So I, for my lost darling’s sake,
Lament the live-day long.
Death, oft I’ve feared thy fatal blow.
Now, fond, I bare my breast;
O, do thou kindly lay me low
With him I love, at rest!
Dear Reyna family, My thoughts and prayers go out to you with the passing of your son. I’m from NJ, played soccer with Rick Jacobs at Millburn HS. My 12yr old daughter Connor (a soccer player) battled 20 months with a brain tumor and she passed 3 years ago. I understand your journey and would welcome the opportunity to talk to you. Peace Mark Landis
