It’s A Dutch Treat for Ross County F.C.!

Staggies v. Dragons: sounds like a role-playing game!

As if July 27th were not a special enough day already, what with it being the birthday of both my father (the big 7-0!) and my best friend (has it really been 25 years?!), it now comes out that during their training camp in the Netherlands later this month, Ross County F.C. will face-off against Erstedivisie (second tier) side F.C. Den Bosch.  I think this will be a pretty casual affair as it is being played at the clubs training complex rather than its stadium, but nonetheless, it says something about County’s newfound stature that they could arrange a preseason match with a respected Dutch side.

The best part of this match may be that the side will be able to spend some time in the city of ‘s-Hertogenbosch (none of “that” was a typo, by the way), the home of one of my favorite painters of all time Hieronymus Bosch (Jheronimus van Aken), the late medieval-early Renaissance painter of scenes such as this:

The Garden of Earthly Delights, c. 1503-1504

Seek out a large version of this to look at- just make sure you are sober and that it’s not dark out.

There is rumored to be another preseason match on the cards while the club is in the Netherlands and you can rest assured that I’ll be doing my best to ferret out the club, date, and location as soon as I can!
